Suicide Statistics Denver Post Matt Hiler

I'll cut to the chase, these statistics about suicide really cut deep. Surveys at Abraham Lincoln High School show: Half of their eleventh graders have ridden with a drunk driver. 45% of the 88 freshmen surveyed said they had tried to kill themselves in the past year. Only 30% felt that they had good parental support. Over all 6.7% of teens have tried to kill themselves and 13.6% of teens have seriously considered suicide. So this tells me at least 1 person, maybe 2 in our classroom have tried killing themselves. I can say that I have been as nice as I can to everyone I can this past year. We all need to take this approach, everybody should feel loved. With only 30% of kids saying they had decent parental support, everybody needs a friend. I appreciate all of you, I appreciate Mrs. Comp, I even appreciate George Bush. (OK not really) Please none of you take this route, to lose a friend or even someone I know well, I've not had this happen to me, but, my guess is it would devastate everyone. I'm glad to have my eyes opened to this, and I hope I can help fix this and get rid of it... for good!

Big 1 PLN Denver Post

Wow! Apparently 2 men broke out into a fist fight when violent words were exchanged. The cop watching pulled a gun (he was off duty) and shot one of the men. The man was taken to the hospital and said to be dead. The cop was released after questioning. What's missing? Somebody dies after almost getting in a fight. I don't agree with shoot first ask questions later. What was this mans crime? Why, did the cop shoot him? This affected me and I don't know why. Mormons don't drink, is this why? Is this what happens when you get drunk? This man didn't deserve to die. I'm starting to hate the media. Why can't they say why the man was shot, what is with the world? This man died I'd like to know why and I want to know now. I can't say much more accept, we are mature enough as a nation to take things straight. Tell us as a nation whats going on because I feel left in the dark. I don't care what he did, you don't shoot someone like that.

Groin Shot Local news

To all you guys out there have a blast reading this. Guys if you don't cringe a little bit when I tell you about this high school coach punishing his players by hitting them with clip boards, and tennis balls in the groin, you're not human. I kinda chuckled when I read this at first but, it's no laughing matter. After one tennis ball to the groin one kid was on the floor for 15 minutes writhing in pain. OK that hurts, well what about the guy who had to have surgery? How funny is it now? The lawyer claimed that the coach didn't mean to... but, he hit the kid several times. The worst thing to do to a guy is to hit him in the groin. The coach was putting as much force into this as possible, he knew the weak spot, he went for it. He's charged with sexual assault. I don't see what other thing they could charge him with but, whatever the sentence he deserves it. Sorry but, this article was just terrible and way below the belt.

Cyber citizenship Education 2cents worth

Good for you Dave, I agree with you completely. There is no safe place on the Internet, perverts and 36 year old men that claim they're 13 are behind every corner. Though you didn't mention this, what cops are doing is great. If you haven't heard the cops are posing as 15 year old girls, to lure in sexual predators. My aunt Lisa, is a sniper for Grand Junction and tried doing this for one day. She caught 8 people, 8 less sex offenders online.... Wow! My dad ( He's a parole officer that does everything he can to keep these people in jail and watches them like a hawk if they go on parole) and I talked about this, he says when you're working with these kind of people you're emotionally drained. He said that you'd think it would be rewarding just chucking these scumbags into jail but, that instead its hard to do and it screws with your feelings. Me, I think it would be fun to catch these jerks, then go up to them and rub it in their face. Dave, I totally agree, please spread this word around.

More Filtering Matt Hiler Education Fisch Bowl

(Note to Mrs. Comp... I'm gonna need the name of the other education blog let me know!)
OK Mr. Fisch you had to keep pushing didn't you? I agreed with you once and because I like arguing with you, I won't do it again. I've said it once I'll say it again there is one solution to filtering and only one. You will never stop high school kids from doing bad stuff online, from accessing their myspace, its impossible. I'll say this once "don't try." You will have the student mafia (if there is such a thing) on your butt 24/7. You don't try to go head to head with the students or you get more and more rebelion. Block the most explicit sites, let students access myspace, but, don't take it to far. The current harsh filters piss everyone off get rid of them.

Mom gets 90 days in jail Matt Hiler Denver Post

Oh my gosh. I read this article and it pissed me off more than all of my other blog articles. This idiot of a women left her 9 month old son in a bathtub while she went to the store. She gets 90 days in jail. What the heck, 90 days? I think this women is a criminal, she was stupid enough to leave a 9 month boy in the bath tub alone. If she can't understand the basic principal of "don't leave your kids in the tub alone" then she doesn't deserve to have kids. What was she thinking, was she drunk, what the heck are the cops thinking? The son was just barely clinging to life when paramedics got there. Send her to jail, keep her in jail, actually make her share a cell with Martha Stewart and Paris Hilton. Maybe Paris will do something right for once and drown her in the tub (Ohhh Martha can use all her money to hide the body too.)

Sex Offender Matt Chaulk on the Run By: Matt Hiler Denver Post

Sex offenders are, in the nicest words possible, scumbags. My dad is a parole officer, he tries to keep losers like this in jail, and if they get on parole he watches them. He has the pleasure of taking people to jail, after reading this article, I wish I could do that. Matt Chaulk, a registered sex offender, has been having a relationship with Amber Westbrook age 16. (Who is now missing by the way.) What a coincidence that he's gone too, surprise, surprise.
This guy is a freak and a wanted fugitive on the run. I hate him, my parents have always told me hate is a strong word, that's why I'm using it. Anybody who would take advantage of a 16 year old girl is somebody who is completely messed up. I'm sorry but, Amber isn't to smart either. The article made it sound as if she was willingly doing this. She must not be thinking strait but, that little bit of not thinking probably cost her her life. Amber hopes to you, that you're okay, that you're not injured. Matt Chaulk hopes to you that you're seriously injured, that you get caught, and that you spend the rest of you're pathetic life in jail.

Education Blog 3 Matt Hiler 2 steps forward

I (for the first time) agree with Mr. Fisch on at least on one part of the article.
I hate the filters and I hate them with a fiery passion. I feel like someone is always watching me, that even if I were to override the filters, that I might get in trouble or give a teacher the impression that I'm up to no good. That's the last thing I need, more teachers chewing me out about my many "flaws." I don't have a my space, don't even have my own email (yet) but, I'm kinda ticked off that I can't even log on to sites like you tube. Why? What is the point of this dang filter, WE'RE ALREADY BEING WATCHED, SO LEAVE US ALONE!

Now for my favorite part of blogging, disagreeing with Mr. Fisch. Mr. Fisch I'm going to put this nicely, never trust a high schooler to do the right thing. Sure, there's always a good kid in the bunch, but you aren't watching whats going on. Just yesterday, somebody went into the football locker room and jacked all the money from peoples backpacks. If anything only block the most explicit sites, we all know were being watched and tracked anyway so this is enough by itself to keep us away. Stop with the incredibly harsh filters, install new ones.

Did you know? By Mr. Fisch

Today I read Mr. Fisch's "Did You Know" power point. Wow! I knew about half of it the other half is kind of a "what the heck." In the power point it said at one point the amount of imformation we get will double every 72 hours. Thats really cool and all but, what are we supposed to do? With my rather short attention span and my super dumbness, how am I supposed to keep up? How could anybody keep up? I'm not sure this all matters though.
I try to make a text to world connection when I say, "Are we gonna live to see this." Bombs are created everyday, they get more advanced everyday, so, are we gonna live to see tomorrow? Is this super flow of information going to come back and stab us in the back, or is it going to make us all smart to the extreme? I don't know and to tell you the truth I'm scared to figure out.

The other thing that concerned me is China. China is getting bigger, better, and smarter. My moms boss (a big person in the buisness world) says (not being sure if this is correct) that 50% of the world speaks chinese. Do I need to speak chinese? Do I need to speak anything besides english or am I just "One sad, strange, little man?" (quoted by Buzz Lightyear)

Denver man has something against ducks (Denver Post)

What the DUCK? Somebody needs therapy here. (maybe the guy who ripped the ducks head off) Thats right you heard me, early on Sunday (9-24) a guest at the Embassy Suites Hotel in St. Paul (obviously drunk) cornered the duck and ripped its head off. Say what?????? The man turned to the security guard watching and claimed "I'm hungry. I'm gonna eat!" Last time I was hungry I don't recall ripping a ducks head off but, maybe I'm just weird like that. Now what do I think of this? (besides that this man is Koo Koo for Cocoa Puffs) I am shocked. I hunt, I shoot bird, but, this is taking it too far. This is not even in the same ballpark, this man is an idiot. The fact that he was drunk doesn't make up for this, and I hope that he ends up in jail. Well, this quack (ducks go quack get it :) is going to end up in jail and I hope that some inmate named Tony rips his head off. So again I say.... WTD.

World News bird flu google news

Matt Hiler
Period 1
Sept. 18th
Its kind of hard to give my opinion on the avian bird flu. Having done reports on this subject I'm a bit creeped out. Yesterday, China confirmed another bird flu outbreak. All the research I've done shows that the bird flu could kill millions. What do I think? Well, I agree. Last year, if I am remembering right, the global ammount of money spent on the bird flu was over 100 million. Yes, thats about all I can say and I hope from here things only get better.

Is it okay to be a technologically illiterate teacher?

Matthew Hiler (your favorite student :)
Period 1
Sept. 18
Today I read the fischbowl and Mr. Fisch wasn't as good as usual. He was hard to follow, kept repeating himself, but, the big thing HE WAS WRONG. Teachers I hugely appreciate they put earn smaller wages and have stressful jobs. So who cares if they are technologically illiterate. Sure for a tech teacher not to be able to use a computer this might cause a problem. Why then must a math teacher or science teacher be able to use a computer. All they need to do is post grades. This was a rediculous article (sorry to Mr. Fisch) but, I myself can't see the reasons why any teacher should have to be a computer nerd!
